Scientific Assistant - Fibre Composite Materials

The Universität der Bundeswehr München is a campus university with excellent facilities for teaching and research.

The Institute for Lightweight Structures at the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering conducts research on lightweight structures made of modern materials, especially fibre composites. In the research project 'ADHYCO', the Institute collaborates closely with DLR and AIRBUS. Together, we develop methods for designing, manufacturing, and testing hybrid composite structures made from thermoplastic materials.

We are looking for you as a Scientific Assistant in the field of 'Design and Manufacturing of Hybrid Fibre Composite Materials'.

The position is limited to three years, starting as soon as possible, and can be full-time or part-time.

• You will work on a research project focused on the investigation and simulation of hybrid thermoplastic composite structures.

• You will conduct experimental research work in the institute's laboratories.

• You will carry out manufacturing experiments using the LFAM process (large format 3D printing).

• You will develop models to describe interfaces and failure modes.

• Structural mechanical simulations (FEM) and multi-objective optimisations are also part of your tasks.

• You will support teaching as a tutor and supervise student theses.

• A completed degree (Master, Magister, or Diplom) with at least a 'good' grade in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or a similar engineering or natural science discipline.

• High motivation, ability to work as part of a team, and enjoyment of scientific work.

• Proficient communication skills in German and English.
