Industrial Router - C / Rust (m/f/d)

We're looking for reinforcements in software development (m/f/d)!

At comtime, we develop industrial routers "Made in Germany" – from hardware to firmware. Our devices connect machines, systems, and infrastructure via mobile networks and VPN, often in environments where reliability is not just an option but a prerequisite.

We are a small, medium-sized company with short decision pathways. No conglomerate, no ticket mills – instead, direct influence on the product.

We are seeking an experienced Linux developer to strengthen our development team and, in the long term, take technical responsibility for our software stack – in close cooperation with the technical management.

What you'll do with us

• You will be responsible for the architecture, development, and maintenance of our OpenWRT-based router firmware
• You will develop and maintain system services in C, and prospectively in Rust – network daemons, VPN integration (IPsec, WireGuard, OpenVPN), mobile network management (LTE/5G)
• You will work directly on the hardware: kernel configuration, driver integration, debugging via serial console, and log analysis
• You will improve build processes, CI/CD pipelines, and release workflows
• You will develop concepts for new features in collaboration with hardware development and product management
• You will make technical decisions and set quality standards for the software stack

What you bring along

Must-have:

• Several years of experience with Linux system programming in C
• Proficient handling of OpenWRT, Buildroot, or Yocto – you know how to create a Linux image
• Sound understanding of network stacks: TCP/IP, routing, NAT, iptables/nftables
• Experience with cross-compilation, makefiles, shell scripting
• Daily use of Git
• Independent, structured work style – you won't get a pre-made ticket board but rather responsibility
• Fluent German (working language)

Nice to have:

• Experience with Rust in systems development
• Knowledge of VPN protocols and their implementation
• Experience with mobile network modems (AT commands, QMI)
• Hardware-level debugging
• Python for tooling, test automation, or scripting
• Completed studies in (technical) computer science – or equivalent professional experience
