Description
Join the Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) as a scientist in our scientific support area, and make a significant contribution to understanding ecosystem changes in polar regions through sediment core analysis.
🔬 Your Tasks 🔬
• Plan and conduct fieldwork, including the collection and subsampling of sediment cores
• Investigate the age-depth relationship, sedimentological, and elemental composition of cores
• Organize and manage the microfossil and partly the DNA laboratory
• Work on sample extractions for pollen and DNA analyses
• Analyze geochemical-sedimentological data and advance coring systems for fieldwork
• Teach students and interns in coring and lab techniques
• Participate in outreach activities like Science Day
🧑🔬 Your Profile 👩🔬
• Completed Master's degree in environmental engineering, geosciences, geoecology, biology, or chemistry
• Practical experience in expedition planning and participation
• Experience in environmental, geo, or bio laboratories
• Desirable: Experience with sediment core sampling, analysis (XRF scanning, age-depth modeling), and microfossil lab work
• Desirable: Experience in molecular genetic work (DNA extraction, NGS sequencing) and (paleo)proteomics
• International research experience is a plus
