About me
Having graduated with a first-class degree in Marine and Coastal Tourism from the University of the Highlands and Islands, with a keen interest in tourism, sustainability (within all aspects of its meaning), ecology and biology, marketing, writing, and journalism, I hope to develop my skills and gain experience within these sectors. I feel my varied undertakings and diverse degree course have afforded me a great deal of adaptability from conducting practical and scientific wildlife surveys to then taking a more creative stance within my various journalism-based experiences. Not only have these opportunities allowed me a sense of adaptability, but they have also acted as complementary forces, strengthening my abilities in both.
I would say my time at WildChina working, firstly, in the sustainability department before moving to their marketing department gave me a monumental chance to not only work one-on-one with a fantastic editor, who constantly cultivated and guided my writing skills into something worthy of customer-facing, luxury-end, marketing pieces. But additionally, I was afforded the opportunity to manage the website’s content creation and design. Through this, I became familiar with programmes such as Canva, photoshop, etc… whilst simultaneously growing my Microsoft skills. Working within different sectors of a large scale, international tourism company gave me a clear insiders insight into the inner workings and necessities a company like this requires.
My most recent job saw me undertake a role in Sustainability Marketing within a social project and restaurant. Whilst, naturally, I furthered my marketing skills and once again exercised my roots in sustainability understanding, the job became a language exercise of a different kind. Working predominantly with Syrian refugees in the town of Muenster, many of whom speaking little to no English, and the majority with just basic German. Understanding and connection were important to achieve.
Have my work visa already, just lokking to switch jobs for a new challenge in the marketing, sustainability or tourism world.
